Advocacy & Policy Influencing Influence decision-makers and communicate the evidence   Why this course? Understand how you can influence a policy process. From first stages to final implementation. It could be your core business or an intrinsic part of your organisation. Obtain a broad set of tools to plan effective advocacy strategies. Conduct actions with well-framed messages, and create coherent paths with your allies for powerful joint interventions. Learn how to monitor advocacy results.   Course objectives By the end of this course, you will:
  • Understand how to embed advocacy actions in your organisation’s plans
  • Use practical tools and methods to plan, prepare, implement and evaluate advocacy initiatives
  • Analyse stakeholders and policy context
  • Gain insight into building strong coalitions, select your political targets, frame your messages in convincing ways
  • Practice how to conduct influential lobby meetings
  • Learn how to monitor advocacy results
  Who should join? You are a professional engaged in advocacy, civil society capacity building, governance or transparency programmes. You may represent a network, an alliance, an association or a trade union. You defend the interests of many or promote rights for your target groups.   Course agenda Day 1: Concepts & Principles Welcome and introduction Policy Influencing and Advocacy concepts, Policy Influencing Cycle Vision/Mission development & Theory of Change Communicating the message   Day 2: Analysing the context CLASP Principles Stakeholder Analysis Chains of Influence – Stakeholder & Actor mapping Network alliances and dynamics   Day 3: Skill building Policy Mapping Advocacy Outcomes & progress markers Policy Change indicators & Outcome journals Skills building: practise a lobby meeting   Day 4: Designing campaigns and monitoring results Social Media for Advocacy Skills training: conducting a policy debate Designing your advocacy campaign Evaluation and certification   Meet your trainer Koen Toonen Senior trainer/consultant Email:   Mr. Toonen is senior trainer of MDF Vietnam office. Koen also has over 20 years of development experience at the UN. He was involved in managing the UNDP-UNEP Poverty Environment Partnership.
